Hot Power Flow For Mind and Body

Many people are intimidated by the idea of a Hot Power Flow yoga class, simply because of its name alone. A common misconception is this style of yoga is reserved only for the most advanced students. But as one of WYC’s skilled and awesome Power Yoga instructors explains, when you attend Hot Power Flow, you should “prepare for a challenge.” However, you should also keep coming back to the class, because your body and mind will learn and respond to the movements, making them a bit easier each time. You don’t have to be a highly skilled and experienced yogi to practice Hot Power Flow yoga. All you need is the willingness to open your mind and body to a highly energetic and movement-oriented practice.

What is Hot Power Flow Yoga?

Hot Power Flow yoga is excellent for your mental and physical health because the asanas are choreographed in such a way that they create an ongoing, flowing dance. Hot Power Flow is practiced in a room that is heated to 95+ degrees, so you will additionally be deeply cleansing your system as you move. Your body will grow even stronger as you release impurities and detoxify your system. Unlike set sequence classes, blend classes are open style classes in which the teacher fuses creative sequences.

As you proceed through the series of asanas in Hot Power Flow, you’ll start to feel heat and energy moving all around you. You’ll feel your breath deepen, your joints release, and your muscles lengthen. You’ll be able to challenge yourself with a series of connected standing balance poses; such as Extended Hand to Big Toe, to Revolved Hand to Big Toe, to King Dancer, to Warrior III, to Revolved Half Moon, to Forward Bend. The focus is not just on achieving and holding each pose, but on the breath and flow that moves your body from one asana into the next.

What are the benefits of Hot Power Flow?

The “power” in Hot Power Flow yoga is not the same as in other fitness terms, as in, say, power lifting. What Power Yoga really means is that it will allow you to develop the inner and outer power to be fully present in both your body and your mind. It will help you to develop strength, flexibility, focus, and mental clarity. Perhaps best of all, Hot Power Flow yoga will help you to develop a powerful sense of inner peace, because if the world all around us were calm all the time, then it would be easy to always be peaceful. But life is not always calm, and it’s not always easy! So by challenging your mind and body to remain calm and fluid through the challenging asanas in a Hot Power Flow yoga class, you are conditioning it to remain calm and fluid during the trials and difficulties of your everyday life. Now THAT is powerful!
