This course provides students with a strong understanding of functional anatomy and how movement of one part affects the whole. Offering an experimental learning environment, Yoga Lab 101 reaches basic structural anatomy, primary functions and movements of joints and muscles, common patterns of tension and weakness, and the effects of poor movement patterns on the body and breath. This 101 program provides a foundation for using yoga as a way to minimize imbalances and begin a journey to greater overall balance.

  • Identify location and function of key anatomical regions of the body and how they relate to yoga postures;
  • Assess patterns of movement, including fulcrums, limitations, over-movement and how these impact balance and well-being in the body;
  • Better determine areas of tightness, strain, tension; weakness, instability; and know how to use postures for safest and greatest effect;
  • Employ best practice sequencing for various common imbalances.  

Yoga Lab 101 caters to those new to anatomy and physiology and those who want to apply previously learned knowledge in new ways. Course is appropriate for yoga teachers of all experience, exercise and movement professionals, and body workers. About Tra Kirkpatrick, E-RYT 500 + YAECP

Led to yoga over 20 years ago during a time of Divine Discontent in her own life, Tra has been sharing yoga with others for 15 years.  Tra’s work integrates yoga with positive psychology to recognize and shift patters that can lead to imbalance and dysfunction.  As a yoga educator , Tra has been developing and leading 200 and 300-hour teacher trainings throughout the United States since 200.  Even more, she has been with Wilmington Yoga’s training programs for more than 7 years.  Tra leads soul-full yoga adventures to amazing locations throughout the world.
