Ask any parent what they want for their children and you’ll likely hear, “I just want them to be happy, healthy and well adjusted.” There are as many different philosophies on parenting to achieve this as there are parents and it’s hard to be consistent.
What if there was one thing that could encourage in your child a healthy body, tools for emotional self-regulation, and social skills for positive interactions?
Something offered as a method of self-discovery; guided by a teacher but ultimately lead from within each child based on their specific needs? You might imagine this type of innovative therapy would be out of reach for the average family.
What if I told you this amazing ‘thing’ is already being offered as a replacement to detention in schools across the country and showing great success in academic and behavioral improvement.
Not to mention this ‘thing’ is sometimes introduced in turn by the child to their family, supporting stress management and healthy lifestyle choices.
So what is this magic ticket to holistic well-being?
Kids Yoga!
The beautiful thing about kid’s yoga is that any amount can be helpful, various styles accommodate differences in student preferences, it is available to practice anywhere, anytime once you understand the basics, and kids have fun with it!
All of the benefits we see in adults who practice yoga are available to children but these benefits are multiplied when we start early.
- Kid’s Yoga is a non-competitive physical activity that develops gross and fine motor skills, coordination, and balance.
- The breathing techniques oxygenate the body which helps with brain function, digestion and, strong immune system function.
- Perhaps most importantly, the philosophical teachings encourage us to take responsibility for our experience and teach skills for coping with challenges.
Kids Yoga encourages children to see the world as an interconnected web so that they understand the impact of their relationship with the world around them. Through this concept children are empowered to support their own well-being and the well-being of people and places affected by their actions. Ultimately this leads to compassionate, mindful, and engaged children. A parental dream come true!
