In our last blog we talked about some of the yoga poses that you can do to help you get a better night’s sleep. We told you that there are several more poses to discuss so that you can add them to your nightly routine. There are three more poses that you can do to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.
Thread-The-Needle
While on your back on the floor, bend your knees up but keep your feet on the floor for now. Place one ankle on the opposite knee (just below the knee, closer to your body). Lift the remaining foot off the ground and bring your knee to your chest. You should use your hands for support under your knee. Make sure to keep your hips parallel. Repeat on the other side.
Reclined Twist
This yoga pose is pretty straight forward. Lay on your back and bring your knees to your chest. Extend one arm to the side at about shoulder height, palm up. Tilt your knees to the opposite side of your extended arm. With the hand closest to your knees, grab your top leg and help stretch. Look straight up and try to keep both shoulders on the floor.
Viparita Karani
This pose requires the use of a wall. The legs-up-on-the-wall pose is self-explanatory. Place your rump as close to the wall as possible and place your legs straight up on the wall. Extend both arms out to each side, palms up and breathe into the pose. The goal is to relax so feel free to close your eyes.
As always, Wilmington Yoga Center would love to help you make sure that you are doing each pose correctly. Come in to any one of our yoga classes!
