Wilmington Yoga Center is so much more than the physical space. It’s the connection, conversation, and the love that make a physical space feel like home. Each month WYC highlights a student that we as teachers find particularly inspiring. Jane is a powerhouse. And she’s extremely dedicated to her morning Core Power Hour practice. It’s a daily thing for her except on Fridays. That’s when she finds her practice off the mat serving the community. Everyone meet the inspiring Jane!
JJ: Tell us a little bit about your life outside Wilmington Yoga Center.
Jane: I volunteer at NHRMC as a Front Desk Receptionist and as a Patient Advocate Liaison. In my PAL role, I visit patients and ensure their needs are being met. I’ve been rewarded many times over listening to their stories. I also volunteer at my church and have met so many people who give from their heart.
JJ: Tell us about your yoga journey.
Jane: My neighbor up north encouraged me to try yoga, but I just brushed him off because I had always considered yoga boring. You sit in a pose and stare. When I moved to NC, a friend gifted me with a 30-day trial at Bikram Yoga. I realized how much more there is to yoga and became committed to my practice.
JJ: Why Wilmington Yoga Center?
Jane: When my 30-day Bikram trial period was up, I decided I wanted to explore other types of yoga, not just a set series of poses in a hot room. I learned WYC also offered a 30-day trial period. After the trial period ended, I knew I found my home. WYC offers diversified classes, great schedules, the best instructors I could possibly wish for, a compassionate staff, and classmates who are fun and filled with loving kindness.
JJ: What is your favorite and least favorite pose?
Jane: I love Side Plank. I feel strong when I hold that pose. I’m not a fan of Warrior 3 because balancing is challenging for me.
JJ: What is your favorite class at Wilmington Yoga Center?
Jane: Core Power because I like to rev up my metabolism to start my day and build strength.
JJ: What or who inspires you?
Jane: I’m inspired by more than one teacher, so it wouldn’t be fair to single anyone out. I will say I always leave class feeling so empowered. Yoga class is also a great panacea when you awaken feeling a bit off.
JJ: What is possible in your life as a result of yoga?
Jane: Stepping out of my comfort zone.
JJ: How does yoga play a part in your daily life?
Jane: I keep a Gratitude Journal where I express gratitude for acts of kindness that are given and received. I dedicate my practice to those who are being challenged and hold them in my thoughts. I stay present in the moment when faced with my own challenges.
