Meet Jessica Halso, Miss North Carolina USA.
JJ: Where are you from Jessica?
Jessica: Chinquapin, North Carolina. It is as small and country as it sounds.
JJ: Tell us a little bit about your life outside Wilmington Yoga Center.
Jessica: I am the reigning Miss North Carolina United States and leave for Washington D.C. this Monday to compete in Miss United States. I attend Port City Community Church and love to go on mission trips. I am actively involved with Feeding the 5,000 – a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of poverty through nutrition and education. I have collectively spent 7 weeks in Nicaragua in the past 11 months and have fallen in love with the people and country!
JJ: Tell us about your yoga journey.
Jessica: I started yoga as a way to get in shape for Miss United States, but I was shocked with how quickly I fell in love with the practice! I am still a beginner, but I love the way I feel every time I get off my mat and plan for yoga to always be a part of my life.
JJ: Why Wilmington Yoga Center?
Jessica: All of the instructors are so kind and helpful! They make sure you get the most out of every class, no matter what level of yoga you practice. I love that Wilmington Yoga Center is centered upon service to others. I always smile on the inside when I go to Kunga classes because I know it goes towards a great cause. I would love to go to India with you guys one day!
JJ: What is your favorite and least favorite pose?
Jessica: My favorites are bridge pose and happy baby. Inversions and I have a strained relationship.
JJ: What is your favorite class at Wilmington Yoga Center?
Jessica: It’s a tie between hot slow flow and power flow.
JJ: What or who inspires you?
Jessica: People who have so little but continue to be giving and joyful. I have seen this firsthand in my efforts in Nicaragua and I am touched every time.
JJ: What is possible in your life as a result of yoga?
Jessica: Sleep! I have always battled with insomnia and yoga (especially hot yoga) relaxes me enough that I fall sleep easily. Also, my flexibility has begun to return and my lower back pain is gone completely!
JJ: How does yoga play a part in your daily life?
Jessica: Yoga has helped me relax and given me an outlet to get out of my own head for an hour. I have a hectic life right now as I prepare for the pageant and yoga reminds me to take time every day to just breathe, relax, and be thankful.
