The History Of Yoga

Everyone has heard of yoga by now but a lot of people don’t know the true meaning or origin if the discipline. We think this is a travesty. Yoga has deep roots with an amazing history and we think that everyone should at least know the basics. Please allow us the opportunity to teach you about the discipline that we love.

Beginnings

Yoda originated in India as a spiritual practice, both physically and mentally. It is commonly threaded with the Hindu and Buddhist religions. It is believed that the practice developed around the 6th and 5th centuries BCE.  Yoga didn’t make its way east until the late 19th – early 20th century when yoga gurus brought it over. In the 1980’s, yoga became a hot craze for physical activity but that is not what yoga was intended for originally.

Yoga Goals

What exactly is the point to yoga? There are many reasons why people practice yoga. We have a few:

  • Control the body and mind
  • Relieve stress
  • Help with flexibility
  • Become physically fit
  • Reduce mental health issues like depression, pain and insomnia

No matter what your reason may be for beginning to practice yoga, one thing is promised. It has the power to help you overcome a lot of things in your life that you may not even be aware of.
