Is it true that once you go hot, you never will not?
Many of the students devoted to hot yoga classes say, yes, it’s definitely true! Once one begins to attend hot yoga classes, they can become quite addictive. And it’s just about the healthiest addiction we can think of!
Why Do Yogis Love Hot Yoga?
Hot yoga, or the practice of completing asanas in a room that is heated to approximately 95-100+ degrees, is loved by many yogis, both new and seasoned. Some say that hot yoga makes them feel loose and pliable in a way that no other activity or exercise can. Others say that it increases their stamina, mental clarity, and helps them sleep better at night. As you can see, the reasons are varied, both physical and mental.
Benefits of Hot Yoga:
-
Improves digestion
-
Expedites weight loss by torching calories and raising metabolism with low impact movement
-
Relieves chronic back and joint pain by lubricating the joints
-
Increases flexibility
-
Develops muscle mass and tone through muscle confusion
-
Improves balance
-
Enhances strength and stamina, both mental and physical
-
Encourages better and more restful sleep at night
-
Eliminates toxins from the body
-
Increases mental and physical endurance
How is it possible for hot yoga to have so many benefits? Think about the detoxifying effect that a sauna has on the body. Then, combine this with the strengthening movements of yoga asanas. These two pieces join forces to increase your pulse rate and metabolism, as well as warm your muscles to allow them to move more freely.
Is Hot Yoga for Everyone?
If pregnant, suffering from high blood pressure, or an autoimmune disorder, please check with your healthcare provider before beginning s hot yoga class routine. In some situations, it may be best to attend a different (non-heated) yoga class, as this will be better suited for some students.
Hot yoga is suitable for many ages and skill levels. The rejuvenating and restorative effects will quickly be seen! Although one will get hot and most definitely sweat, the act of sweating will naturally help to control the internal body temperature.
Which Hot Yoga Class is Appropriate?
If new to hot yoga, look for a class on the Wilmington Yoga Center’s schedule that is labeled as ALL levels. This means that it is suitable for those who are trying hot yoga for the first time. Five Elements Earth Flow and Warm Power Flow would be excellent choices. Of course, those who are experienced in hot yoga are welcome to attend these classes, too! Students are encouraged to try different hot classes and always honor what their body is communicating in class.
If looking for a hot yoga challenge, try Five Elements Fire Flow. This type of class has been designed for level 2-3 yoga students. Another great option is Hot Slow Flow. This class’ slower pace makes hot yoga accessible to many experience levels, while still providing a major challenge and is offered at ALL levels.
Regardless of which class is chosen, make sure to bring a hand towel, yoga mat towel and a bottle of water. Drink plenty of water before class, and be prepared to sweat out all of those pesky toxins!
