Montezuma is located in the southern Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica on the Pacific Ocean, just 25 minutes from Santa Teresa / Malpais. The Nicoya Peninsula has been designated one of the world’s Blue Zones by author Dan Buettner, one of five areas in the world where people are known to live the longest and healthiest. This very beautiful coast is made up of a mix of rocky areas and white sand beaches.
Montezuma’s treasures include its lush forests and protected wildlife, including howler monkeys and birds. In 2021, the community of Montezuma implemented a local certification program to recognize sustainable actions in 7 different areas. All businesses and tourist activities participate and are awarded the eco turtle badge that highlights good behavior to pursue conservation and sustainable development.
Montezuma Waterfalls: Probably the most popular activity in Montezuma are the waterfalls just south of town. The Montezuma Waterfalls are a set of three cascades that have something for everyone. While some just relax or picnic at the largest waterfall (almost 80 feet/24 meters tall), more adventurous types jump and swim at the other two.The famous Montezuma waterfalls are just out the back door of our accommodations. We have our own private entrance.
All guest meals will be prepared by a private chef onsite and are included in the price. Chef will make accommodations for any food allergies/dietary restrictions.
Guests can Expect:
We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or those who eat fish and/or chicken, but we do not serve red meat. Almost all of the food is local and organic, with some of it, especially our greens coming directly from our own farm.
We take pride in the versatility and quality of offerings we provide during yoga retreats. Guests can expect two yoga classes daily, one in the morning and one in the later afternoon/evening. Morning classes are higher energy – basic flows, power flows, etc. Evening classes allow students to wind down from their day- restorative, yin, gentle, slow flows. Classes are always optional. Guests do not have to participate in any classes they would not like to. All levels are welcome to each class, with modifications offered to tailor each practice towards those present. Props will be provided and their use encouraged.
Yoga will be led by Heather Metzler (See bio below.)
