The Wilmington Yoga Center held a weekend of FREE Yoga January 11-13 to raise money for our Kunga Fund, supporting the Homes of Hope Orphanages in India. Thanks to the support of our loyal, compassionate, and caring community we raised enough money to sponsor FIVE girls for the entire year, and to feed the whole orphanage for TWO weeks!!
“Kunga” is a Kenyerwandan word meaning “to serve or help”. The mission of all Kunga Yoga programs is to offer the teachings of yoga as a path of service to the planet, it’s people, and all beings.
The vision of Kunga Yoga is to connect cultures by inspiring and training individuals to approach their yoga practice and lifestyle choices as an opportunity to serve others, to encourage healthy communities, and to inspire positive activism. Our vision is to connect volunteers, donors, yoga students, and yoga teachers with local and international communities in need.
Over the years our community has donated medical & school supplies, computers, musical instruments and funds to allow many of these girls to continue on to secondary schooling and a life beyond the orphanage. We see our relationship with the Home of Hope as an excellent way to challenge ourselves and our students to take their yoga off the mat and engage in selfless service in the real world. The rewards could not be greater than seeing the joy in the girls’ faces as they enjoy the basic necessities and creature comforts we have been able to provide.
The studio was abuzz all weekend with longtime students and newcomers enjoying coconut water and smoothie samples, free massage, stories about the girls and our efforts at Home of Hope, and of course … Yoga!
Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this event a success, but the need is great and our goal is lofty. Please help us reach $4000 by the end of January by stoping in and making a donation! If you’d like to donate by credit card please visit www.homeofhopeindia.org
