Why You Should Choose Yoga This Spring
You’ll Build Muscle
While many people believe that there’s nothing more to yoga than stretching, yoga classes are actually a fantastic way to build muscular strength and improve your endurance. You won’t be cleaning barbells or deadlifting twice your bodyweight like you would be in a CrossFit gym, but you don’t need to push your body that hard to get fit. Yoga classes require you to be able to support your bodyweight in a number of different poses, and to do so, you’ll have to activate muscle groups you don’t ordinarily use throughout the day.
You’ll Increase Your Heart Rate
Building off of the previous point, there’s nothing easy about supporting your bodyweight for extended periods of time, nor is it easy to stretch and flex muscles you didn’t even know you had! Yoga classes can provide you with an excellent aerobic workout that gets your heart pumping and improves your overall stamina.
You’ll Improve Your Posture
Do you sit at a desk for the majority of the day? Do you work in the service industry and spend long periods of time standing on your feet? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, then you probably have tight muscles and poor posture. Sitting at a desk all day, for instance, causes your hamstrings and lower back to become tight, which can cause muscular imbalances and lead to even worse posture. On the other hand, standing for long periods of time can put undue pressure on your feet and knees and cause discomfort that lasts far beyond the length of your shift.
Yoga classes improve your posture by promoting proper alignment and increasing your muscular flexibility, and we can almost guarantee that you’ll be surprised by how much better you feel after several classes. While it does take time to fully correct poor posture, we promise that the hard work is worth the payoff!
