Yoga Myths
You Need to Be Flexible to Take Yoga Classes
This myth is perhaps the most prominent one we’ve heard, so we’ll begin by saying that you do not need to be flexible before signing up for yoga classes. All you need to do is show up and give every movement your best. While some people are naturally more flexible than others, flexibility is something that you need to work on every day. Regularly coming to our Wilmington yoga studio will help you loosen tight muscles and build strength, but any results you see will result from dedication. Just as the fit people in the gym didn’t get to where they are overnight, the flexible people in your yoga classes have put in an immense amount of work to get where they are.
Yoga Is All About Physical Fitness
This claim is only partially true. While you will likely see your fitness level improve after you’ve attended our yoga classes for a few months, there is so much more to yoga than physical training. At our Wilmington yoga studio, we strive to provide our clients with a mixture of breathing and stretching exercises that benefit the mind as much as the body. With careful attention placed on the breath during every session, you’ll find that the mental benefits of yoga are just as prominent as the physical changes you see in your body.
Every Yoga Class Is the Same
This myth is completely understandable if you’ve never been to a yoga class before. You’ve probably seen people stretching and wearing similar clothes, and it’s reasonable to come to the conclusion that every yoga class is similarly structured. However, there are a variety of yoga styles and classes to choose from, especially at our Wilmington yoga studio. We offer everything from hot yoga classes to more gentle classes for beginners, and we’re proud to say that we have something for everyone. While yoga classes may all look alike from the outside, you’ll find that the number of yoga varieties is staggering once you begin looking through our list of classes.
These are only three of the many yoga myths you may have heard. Keep an eye on our blog page, as we’ll be examining even more yoga myths in the coming weeks and months.
